Astoria Boys & Girls Club Hosts Heroes 21 Championship
Team LeaderLife and Team L’Union
It was an exciting finish to the 2014 Heroes 21 Basketball championship, which was held at the Variety Boys and Girls club in Astoria. The LeaderLife Fitness team edged out Team L’Union in a thrilling overtime game with a final score of 72–69.
“There was a great deal of parity in the playoffs this year,” said Jeff Leider, captain of the Leader Life team.
The parity resulted in five upsets in the nine playoff games. L’Union and LeaderLife finished the regular season in third and fourth place, respectively, and had strong playoff runs to advance to the championship game.
